Welcome to Scarborough UTC

My passion has always been for engineering, design and control, and I am Time Englefield no background copyfortunate to be able to convert that passion in to my career – something that we believe graduates of Scarborough UTC will also be able to do.

Through our school, young people will learn using a modern curriculum blending traditional GCSE and A Level subjects, such as Maths, English and Science, alongside Engineering Technical qualifications. To link these together, students will complete a number of employer projects requiring both academic and practical skills, and giving them experience of work and everyday life within a business context.

Engineering, design and control careers are varied, in demand, with great potential and the perfect option for both girls and boys who have a desire to solve problems, use creative and investigative thought processes, and become inventors and innovators.

My aim, and the aim of Scarborough UTC as a school, is to prepare the next generation of driven, young people ready so that there is a talent pool to meet the needs of industry.

Our UTC is supported by the University of Hull and a wealth of commercial knowledge from our employer partners, which will give our graduates a real advantage when they move into the workplace or to Higher Education.

If you are about to start Years 10 or 12, are looking to turn your love of Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths in to a future career, and are prepared to work hard towards this goal, then Scarborough UTC is the school for you.

Tim Englefield, Scarborough UTC Principal

Welcome to the Scarborough UTC website.

As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, I am proud that Scarborough UTC will offer ambitious young people in the area an opportunity to turn their love of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths into exciting careers in engineering, cyber technology, robotics, control and design.

Scarborough and the surrounding area is in an unprecedented position of growth, with 2000 new jobs expected in the next five years. Many of these will be within the engineering and design sectors, which are currently facing a shortage of young people with the right knowledge and experience of work.

Apprenticeships are also expected to grow and local employers want to ensure they are able to fill this gap with young people from the area, rather than going further afield to recruit.

Scarborough UTC will provide the highest quality talent base, which means we can grow and retain young people with aspirations to realise their goals. They will become the new generation of engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians, contributing towards Scarborough’s continuing transformation into a centre of excellence for innovation.

Our UTC is backed by key partners;

Castle, Firmac, GCHQ, McCain, Plaxton, Scarborough Borough Council, Schneider, Severfield, SWC Trade Frames, Unison, University of Hull and York Potash. This will ensure Scarborough UTC has the latest in equipment, mentoring and academic rigour, combined with commerical expertise, making it a unique school experience.
