Why Scarborough UTC?

Why Scarborough UTC?

Scarborough UTC, specialising in Advanced Engineering, Design and Control will deliver the highest quality school leavers who will be the next generation of engineers and technicians.

The UTC is led by a core group of employers including Castle, Deep Sea Electronics, Firmac, GCHQ, McCain Foods, Plaxton (ADL), Schneider Electronic Ltd, Severfield, SWC Tradeframes, Unison Ltd and York Potash. Support from Scarborough Borough Council, specifically the regeneration and children’s services departments, enhances the strength of these partners.

After training at Scarborough UTC, young people will be able to compete effectively for roles or apprenticeship places at 16, 18, and after university.  We want to ensure that each student is employable at each entry point giving the UTC generation the best chance of success in a changing, challenging and global corporate world.

We now have over 250 engineering companies, employing 16,400 people, established in the region. This work was recognised and we were awareded most enterprising town in the UK in 2008 and Europe in 2009, beating major international cities including Valencia.

Through effective partnership working with industry partners and the University of Hull we will ensure we offer a relevant, high quality and innovative education where all students progress into a destination in employment or further/higher education or training.

Through our links with the University of Hull, we will recruit staff who are actively engaged in their own professional development and engage with local and national businesses to better understand the labour market and business demands as well as being at the forefront of their specialism.  Our graduates will have worked with industry partners and Scarborough Business Ambassadors throughout their UTC career and will have the skills, attitudes and behaviours required to become a valuable employee from day one.
