Careers and employability are at the heart of the work within Scarborough UTC. Our core values are technical excellence and employable graduates. Within our core values we have four areas of foci that permeate all of our lessons:
Our curriculum is developed in partnership with local and national employers so you get a mix of academic and technical learning. These are delivered in world class facilities by engineering and computer science experts. Students learn both practical and academic skills to prepare them for the word of work. These have a key focus on engineering and computer science.
Students in the UTC have access to a minimum of one week of work experience during each academic year. There are also numerous employer engagement opportunities through our sponsors who lead lesson sessions, workshops, competitions and mentoring for students.
Our sponsors include:
McCain DSE Schneider Electric University of Hull
GCHQ Plaxton NHS RAF
Unison Firmac HSBC Castle Group
Sirius Rosti Severfield Flamingo Land
All students develop an employability skills file whilst at Scarborough UTC and cover the following topics to help with their careers preparation:
Applying for jobs
This is embedded further by personal encounters with the world of work to build confident and employable students.
